Leicester City complete signing of Rachid Ghezzal from Monaco
Paul Mariner and Alexis Nunes rate all the latest transfer rumors as deadline day rapidly approaches.

Leicester City completed the signing of Algeria winger Rachid Ghezzal from Monaco on Sunday.

The Foxes beat a number of other Premier League clubs, including Watford and Southampton, who had also been chasing the 26-year-old this summer.

Ghezzal, who has made 13 caps for Algeria and played at last year’s African Nations Cup, signed a four-year-contract.

“I’m very excited and very happy to be here,” Ghezzal said. “I know the coach from Lyon and this is where I want to be. It’s a good Club and an ambitious one too. Leicester City has many great players and I hope we will have a great season.”

ESPN FC reported on Friday that Monaco had granted the 26-year-old permission to travel to England for talks, and he was undergoing a medical at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester boss Claude Puel is a big admirer of Ghezzal, having worked with him during his time in charge of Lyon.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Rachid to Leicester City Football Club,” the manager said. “He’s an exciting addition to our group who will bring creativity and competition ahead of an important season for us. I know his qualities from my time at Lyon, where he was in the academy, and I look forward to seeing him test himself in the Premier League.”

Ghezzal only joined Monaco last summer on a free transfer after failing to agree a new deal with Lyon.

At Leicester, he will help fill the void left by fellow Algerian Riyad Mahrez, following his departure from Leicester to Manchester City earlier this summer.

He becomes the Foxes’ fifth summer signing after the arrivals of Jonny Evans, James Maddison, Ricardo Pereira and Danny Ward.
